Orelsan Responds to Mbappé Criticism with Self-Deprecation, Declares ”I’m Targeting No One”
French rapper Orelsan has addressed recent public criticism from football star Kylian Mbappé with characteristic humor and self-deprecation, stating he prefers “to think rather than respond directly.” The exchange began after Mbappé took issue with lyrics in Orelsan’s work referencing the financial struggles of a Normandy-based club, prompting a back-and-forth on social media.
The dispute unfolded after Orelsan released a video explaining the meaning behind “The Little voice,” a track from his album, linking it to a character representing an “inner critic” in his film. Mbappé responded to orelsan’s explanation with a pointed message, accusing the rapper of hypocrisy while referencing the rapper’s own team’s performance-currently tenth in the National championship and recently eliminated from the Coupe de France by Bayeux. Orelsan then concluded his video by showcasing footage of himself missing a penalty during a charity match.
According to reports from West France, when questioned about the clash during a signing session in Caen on November 9, Orelsan opted for a measured response. ”I prefer to think rather than respond directly,” he said, effectively defusing the situation. mbappé’s initial post included a claim that the club in question had “begged” for a 1% entry fee waiver due to financial constraints, while concurrently seeking a positive public image as a “little guy from Normandy.”
