Oregon Football Climbs too Top 5 in Coaches Poll After Dominating Montana State
EUGENE, Ore. – the University of Oregon football team surged into the top 5 of the USA Today Coaches Poll on Sunday, September 1, following a decisive victory over Montana State. The Ducks’ commanding performance propelled them to no. 4, marking their highest ranking in the poll sence 2021.
The ascent reflects Oregon’s impressive start to the 2025 season and signals a potential championship contender in the Big Ten Conference. This ranking carries meaningful weight as the season progresses, influencing College Football Playoff considerations and recruiting efforts. A top-5 position elevates the program’s national profile and increases the pressure to maintain success against a challenging schedule.
Oregon dismantled Montana State 56-10 on Saturday, September 1, showcasing a potent offense and a stifling defense. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel led the charge, completing 18 of 25 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. The Ducks’ rushing attack also proved dominant, amassing 212 yards on the ground.
“We came out with a lot of energy and executed our game plan effectively,” said Oregon head coach Dan Lanning after the game. “Our players were focused and persistent to start the season strong.”
The Ducks’ defense limited Montana State to just 257 total yards and forced three turnovers. Linebacker Jestin Jacobs recorded a team-high eight tackles, while defensive end Matavao led the team with two sacks.
