Oran University Hospital Pioneers Pain Relief with Advanced Nerve Surgery Technique
Oran, Algeria – The Oran University Hospital has successfully implemented a cutting-edge technique utilizing pulsed radiofrequency to neutralize nerve fibers responsible for pain, marking a notable advancement in functional neurosurgery within Algeria. The procedure, performed under local anesthesia without open surgery, promises rapid recovery and minimized postoperative risks for patients.
This breakthrough is part of a broader modernization program at the hospital, which has invested in the latest generation of equipment and is fostering increased collaboration between surgical specialties. The department recently treated patients with localized muscle spasms in both upper and lower limbs – a first for the establishment - in partnership with the orthopedic surgery department led by Professor Anouar Djawad Midas.
“We aim to master modern functional nerve surgery techniques to offer our patients precise, safe treatments that meet international standards,” stated Professor Rabah Guerbouz. “Nervous system disorders (tumors, malformations, vascular pathologies, chronic pain) require advanced skills and perfect coordination between services.”
The Oran University Hospital team is further strengthened by the recent integration of Professor Ben Aissa abdennebi, a recognized expert in functional neurological surgery. The department maintains close working relationships with neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurophysiology, and anesthesia-resuscitation departments to provide comprehensive patient care.
The success at Oran University Hospital follows a positive development in Tizi-Ouzou, where the state recently removed obstacles to facilitate the production of 100% locally-made medical equipment.
