A youth hockey league in Ontario has disbanded a U-15 team following the circulation of nude images of players on Snapchat. The Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario confirmed the West London U-15 Hawks’ activities have ceased, citing the need to protect the safety of minor-aged players.
Two players identified as being involved in the incident have been suspended by the league and will be subject to an independent disciplinary process established by Hockey Canada in 2022 for handling such cases nationwide, according to Larry Moreland, president of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.
Three coaches associated with the team have been indefinitely suspended. The images reportedly were taken in the team’s locker room showers and subsequently shared on Snapchat, a social media platform known for its ephemeral content.
The London Police Service has launched an investigation into the matter. “The London Police Service has investigated a social media post concerning a local men’s hockey team,” a police statement read. “As this post relates to an ongoing investigation, no further information can be released at this time.”
Tait Williamson, president of the West London Minor Hockey Association, issued a statement condemning the actions of the two players involved. “We condemn any alleged behaviour that compromises the safety and integrity of our sport,” Williamson wrote. “Our commitment remains unwavering: to provide a safe and respectful environment for every athlete in our program.”
