Guayaquil, Ecuador – An armed attack early friday, November 7, left one man dead and two others injured in the La Garzota neighborhood north of Guayaquil. The shooting occurred in front of the Chifa Ming Wha chinese restaurant, at the intersection of Agustín Freire Icaza and Eloy Velásquez Cevallos avenues, around 02:00.
The victims, identified as car caretakers, were gathered outside the restaurant when a vehicle carrying multiple armed individuals opened fire. This incident underscores the escalating violence impacting public spaces in Guayaquil, a city grappling with increasing gang-related activity and its effects on everyday citizens. Police and emergency services responded to the scene, initiating an investigation and providing medical assistance.
Witnesses reported hearing at least six gunshots before the attackers fled. The deceased victim remains unidentified and died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, confirmed by Fire Department paramedics led by Ronny Barzola.
The injured were identified as Ignacio Xavier M., 46, and Edwin José S., 41, a Venezuelan national. Both were transported to a Guayaquil hospital by police and emergency personnel for treatment.
Criminalistics, Forensic medicine, and Dinased units are currently processing the scene to collect evidence and further investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
