DES MOINES, Iowa – Omahawomen’s soccer suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Drake Wednesday night,⁤ marking a setback in thier⁢ early-season campaign. The loss brings​ the Mavericks’‌ overall​ record to 2-2-2 as they navigate a challenging non-conference​ schedule.

The⁢ result underscores the competitive landscape of the Summit league, with both teams vying for momentum heading into conference play. Omaha’s performance against Drake ‍provides valuable experience as they prepare for a meaningful road test against No.19 Oklahoma this Sunday.The Mavericks aim to ‍rebound from this defeat and demonstrate their⁢ potential against a nationally ranked opponent.

Drake initiated the scoring in the 22nd minute, testing Omaha goalkeeper Hayley Ogden with a shot from the left corner, ‌which she ​successfully saved.⁣ The Mavericks responded with a near-goal in the 28th minute when‍ Payten Ivins fired‌ a shot just over the⁣ crossbar.

Lauren Kullberg gave Drake ​a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute, but Omaha quickly equalized two ⁤minutes later ‍with an own goal created by pressure from Lauren Schmidt on ⁤the ‌Drake defense. The first half concluded with the score tied at ‌1-1.

However, Drake regained the advantage just one minute into the second half with ​a goal from Zoey Mahoney, establishing a 2-1 lead ‍that ⁣would hold ⁢until the final whistle. Omaha registered‌ four ⁢shots on goal, while Drake recorded‌ five.

Omaha will resume competition on Sunday,‌ September 7, at⁤ 1 p.m. CT,⁤ traveling to Norman, Oklahoma, to face ‍the 19th-ranked ‍Oklahoma Sooners.
