Omaha Gas Leak: Evacuations & Street Closures

OMAHA, Neb. – A major gas leak prompted evacuations and street closures in ⁢North Omaha thursday afternoon, authorities reported. The leak, ⁢frist reported around noon near 24th and Wirt streets, triggered a large emergency response involving omaha Police, Omaha Fire, and the Metropolitan Utilities District (M.U.D.).

Police closed streets from 22nd to 25th streets, between Binney and Spencer streets, directing traffic and urging residents to follow officer instructions.An emergency alert was also issued to cell phones‌ in the affected area. Crews are currently working to ventilate an office building where the leak originated.

The Omaha Police Department posted updates on social media, confirming the evacuations⁣ and closures.As ⁣of⁢ 1:30 PM,⁢ authorities ‍continued‍ to assess the situation ​and provide updates as they become available. ⁢Residents are advised to stay clear of the area.
