Olire vs. Ozempic, Wegovy & Mounjaro: A Brazilian Price Comparison

Breaking News: A recent study published in March 2024 by the O Globo newspaper indicates that tirzepatide (Mounjaro), manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, demonstrates a 47% greater reduction in weight compared to semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic), produced by Novo Nordisk.

Weight-loss medications are gaining prominence, but their effectiveness can be influenced by factors beyond the drug’s inherent properties, including the duration of patient monitoring and adherence to treatment plans.

For instance, while tirzepatide has shown a maximum weight reduction of up to 25.3%, this result was observed over an 88-week period.

Comparative studies between tirzepatide and semaglutide, as reported by O Globo, confirm Mounjaro’s superior efficacy, demonstrating a 47% greater reduction in weight.

How do medicines act?

These medications mimic the action of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone within the body. GLP-1 receptors are located in various organs, including the pancreas, where interaction stimulates insulin production. Initially, these drugs were developed to treat type 2 diabetes.

In the stomach,GLP-1 slows down the rate of food digestion, and in the brain,it activates satiety centers. These mechanisms collectively reduce hunger and, consequently, daily caloric intake.

Tirzepatide represents a newer generation of these medications, functioning as a dual agonist by mimicking both GLP-1 and another intestinal hormone called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
