Olbia to New York Flights Double for 2027 With United Airlines Addition

November 4, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Between May and October, 32 mila passengers traveled on the direct air route between Olbia and New York, recording an 80 percent load factor that has prompted a doubling of flight frequencies for the 2027 season, ilsole24ore.com reported on November 4, 2026. The air link between Olbia and New York not only works but is doubling, and from the upcoming season, travelers will be able to journey from Gallura to the US every day because to the connection operated four times a week by Delta Airlines will be added another: travelers will be able to fly with United Airlines for three days a week.

The Expansion of Transatlantic Flights to Olbia

The air link between Gallura and the United States is expanding as demand proves the route’s viability. Delta Airlines currently operates four flights per week on the connection. Starting in the upcoming season, United Airlines will introduce a second service running three days a week.

The schedule for the new carrier was due to run from May 27 through September 22, connecting Olbia directly to Newark Liberty International Airport. Airport management company Geasar stated that the addition certifies the growing interest in Sardinia and highlights the international vocation of the northeast airport.

Economic Ties and American Tourism Growth in Northeast Sardinia

Regional data shows an 80 percent increase in tourism from the United States to Sardinia over a two-year period, with Gallura exceeding a 93 percent surge. The United States now ranks as the island’s ninth largest tourism market overall and its largest outside Europe.

The Cipnes study center noted that the New York-Olbia route connects the island to a broader network of economic, industrial, and financial relations. This infrastructure influences the region’s ability to attract foreign direct investment, promote local industrial exports, and build partnerships with international operators. In 2024, the 26 municipalities of northeast Sardinia recorded 141 mila tourist arrivals from the United States, representing the highest figure in the entire regional territory.

Travelers using the route include both American visitors heading to the Costa Smeralda and Sardinian residents traveling to New York. The established volume supports daily operations for the upcoming summer schedule.
