OGC nice Players Issue Statement Denouncing Attacks, Security Failures Following Lorient Match
NICE, FRANCE – The OGC Nice players have released a strongly worded statement contesting narratives surrounding the violent incidents that occurred after their match against Lorient, detailing physical and verbal assaults against team members and criticizing the security measures in place. the statement, published today, aims to “reestablish the truth” and address what the players perceive as attempts to downplay the severity of the events.
The players’ release comes amid scrutiny following the match, with concerns raised about the safety of players and staff. Several members of the OGC Nice team - including Florian Maurice, Terem Moffi, Jérémie Boga, and Jonathan Clauss – were reportedly attacked, with two still experiencing physical and psychological after-effects impacting their ability to compete. The incident highlights growing concerns about player safety and security protocols at football matches, and the club is demanding a full inquiry to prevent future occurrences.
According to the statement, players and managers were subjected to “multiple spitting and blows” as well as verbal attacks. The presence of numerous hooded individuals, identified as violating public assembly laws, was also noted, with the players criticizing the police response as insufficient given the escalating situation.
“The OGC Nice players deplore with the greatest firmness the failures observed in the association and management of the security system,” the statement reads. “Given the context, the number of supporters present and their obvious virulence, the measures put in place were largely insufficient to guarantee the safety of the players, the staff and all those involved in the match.”
the players also expressed disappointment with the perceived lack of support for those injured, both individually and publicly. the entire team has voiced its solidarity with Jérémie Boga,Terem Moffi, jonathan Clauss, and Florian Maurice, offering full support during their recovery.
The OGC Nice players are calling for a “thorough investigation and the identification of responsibilities” to ensure such incidents are not repeated. The club has not specified what further action it intends to take pending the outcome of the investigation.
