SAN JOSE, CA – Gotham FC defeated teh Washington Spirit 1-0 Saturday night at paypal Park, claiming the National Women’s Soccer League Championship title in a match witnessed by a crowd of 18,000 fans. While Gotham FC secured the championship, the City of San Jose also emerged a winner, experiencing a significant economic boost from the influx of visitors.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan highlighted the positive economic impact of the event. “There’s an economic impact of many here flying into San jose, staying at our hotels, going to our restaurants, especially crucial for local small business owners,” Mahan stated. He emphasized that hosting the NWSL Championship is a precursor to a busy seven months for the city, which will also host the Super Bowl, March Madness, a World Cup event, and a national tennis championship following the World Cup.
