Nvidia Invests $1 billion in Nokia to Fuel AI Infrastructure Expansion
Espoo, Finland & Santa Clara, California – October 28, 2025 – Nvidia Corp. has taken a $1 billion equity stake in Nokia Oyj, signaling a deepening commitment to bolstering AI infrastructure and expanding its reach within the telecom sector. The investment will see Nvidia acquire approximately 2.9% of Nokia through the purchase of 166,389,351 new shares at $6.01 apiece, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The strategic partnership will integrate Nvidia’s chips to accelerate Nokia’s software for 5G/6G networks. simultaneously, Nvidia will explore leveraging Nokia’s data-center technology to enhance its own AI infrastructure capabilities.
Nokia, traditionally recognized for its telecom equipment, has been strategically expanding into the data centre business, capitalizing on the surging demand for computing power driven by the AI boom.This expansion proved successful,contributing to Nokia exceeding Wall Street estimates in the last quarter. Earlier this year, the espoo, Finland-based company further strengthened its position with the $2.3 billion acquisition of Infinera Corp., broadening its portfolio of networking products for AI data centres.
nokia CEO Justin Hotard aims to position the company as a global alternative to China’s Huawei Technologies Co. in the telecom hardware market.
The investment in Nokia is part of nvidia’s broader, ongoing investment spree. In recent months, the company has committed $100 billion to OpenAI, and billions more to autonomous-vehicle companies Wayve and Oxa, fintech firm Revolut, and various AI startups including PolyAI. Nvidia is also investing $500 million in a new AI data centre in partnership with Deutsche Telekom AG.
