AI Plant Doctor Aims to revolutionize Garden Care in Gyeonggi Province
SUWON, SOUTH KOREA – November 15, 2023, 09:16:14 KST – Gardeners in Gyeonggi Province may soon have a new ally in keeping their plants healthy: artificial intelligence. The Urban and Rural Growth Institute is evaluating a new AI-powered diagnostic system designed to provide instant, 24-hour plant health assessments, potentially transforming how plant diseases and issues are addressed.
The system leverages AI trained with expert botanical knowledge to offer non-face-to-face consultations, bridging the gap in access to specialist advice. Currently, a plant diagnosis can take up to three days when relying on manual expert review. Officials anticipate the AI will dramatically reduce this timeframe, delivering answers in as little as 10 seconds – and no more than one minute – potentially saving countless plants from preventable loss.
According to an official from the Urban and Rural Development Institute, the initiative aims to “grow it into an industry,” recognizing the potential for widespread impact and economic chance. The faster diagnostic capabilities are expected to significantly reduce plant mortality rates among home gardeners and potentially in agricultural settings. the Institute is currently finalizing the implementation plan for the new technology.
