Novak Djokovic to Compete at Shanghai Masters,Eyes Record fifth Title
SHANGHAI – Four-time champion Novak Djokovic has confirmed his participation in teh 2024 Shanghai Masters,scheduled to take place from October 1st-12th. This marks his return to the tournament after reaching the final in 2024, where he lost to Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic first won the Shanghai Masters in 2012,defeating Andy Murray in a three-set match. He followed with consecutive titles in 2013, overcoming Juan Martin del Potro in a last-set tiebreaker, and 2015, after defeating Murray in the semi-finals and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final. His fourth and most recent Shanghai Masters victory came in 2018 against Borna Coric.
The event was not held between 2020-2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
currently ranked third in the Race to Turin rankings, behind Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Djokovic’s return to Shanghai comes as he seeks to overcome recent losses against the top two players. He defeated Alcaraz in the quarter-finals of the Australian open earlier this year.
Following the Shanghai Masters,Djokovic is scheduled to participate in the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh,Saudi Arabia (October 15th-18th),and the inaugural Athens Open (November 2nd-8th),a tournament owned by his family,which returns after a 30-year hiatus. His participation in the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in turin remains to be resolute. He skipped the ATP finals last year due to injury, having previously won the event in his last two participations.
