A teenage girl has died following a collision involving a car and a minibus near Tadcaster Grammar School in North yorkshire. Police responded to reports of the incident earlier today and confirmed the fatality. A 40-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the crash.
The collision occurred on a country road close to the school, prompting a large police cordon covering three roads. The incident has deeply impacted the local community and prompted an examination into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Authorities are appealing for witnesses and relevant footage to aid their inquiry.
BBC Look North reporter Olivia Richwald, reporting from the scene, described a significant police presence. “We’ve seen two vehicles behind that cordon – one a small pale-coloured car with what looks like a dented front bumper,” she said. “The second is larger, perhaps a van or a small bus. It is indeed behind a tarpaulin.”
Richwald noted the area was relatively quiet, stating, “The road is quiet and it’s not a residential area so there isn’t anyone around, except the odd car wich is driving up to the road closure signs and turning around.”
Police have requested that anyone with facts regarding the collision contact them directly. The road remains closed as investigations continue.
