Headford, Co. Galway – Noreen Gavin (née Maher), a beloved matriarch whose life spanned nearly a century, passed away peacefully at her Cloughanover home on september 11th, 2025, surrounded by her daughter Dolores and family.She was 96.
The passing of Mrs. Gavin marks the end of an era for a family deeply rooted in both Galway and Mayo. Her life touched generations, leaving behind a legacy of love and connection for her six children, 23 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are underway to celebrate her life and offer support to those grieving her loss, with services scheduled for Saturday and Sunday of this week.
Noreen was predeceased by her husband, Tommie, and their infant son, John. She is survived by her children,ann English,Adrian,Dolores Doyle,Joe,paul,tomás and Diarmuid. She is also remembered by her sons-in-law Brian English and John Doyle, daughters-in-law Mary, Martina, Trish, Helen and Deirdre, brother Tony Gavin and his wife Margaret (Ennis), and sisters Crissie Pringle (USA) and Grace Cock, and her husband Jim (UK). Her extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Reposing will take place at Carey’s Funeral Home,Claran Road,Headford (H91 E6X9) on Saturday,September 13th,from 5pm to 7pm. Following this, her remains will be removed to her home on Sunday morning before proceeding to St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, for Requiem Mass at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Guesdian Cemetery, Ballinafad.
