Death Could Not Part a Couple’s 67-Year Love Story

In a remarkable testament to enduring love, a Brazilian couple, Vicente de Paula Arantes and Cylma Silva da Boaviagem, remained inseparable even in death. The pair, married for over six decades, passed away just hours apart, their bond unbroken until the very end.

A Lifetime of Togetherness

Their extraordinary journey began in Belo Horizonte, where they first met while working in an accounting office. Vicente was a law student; Cylma worked as a teacher. Their relationship blossomed into a strong marriage that spanned 67 years.

They married on July 2, 1958, and photographs from their early years show a smiling couple. Their family says the couple lived a life of service in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The couple’s family shared, “They died the same day, as if they had agreed to never separate.

A Life of Dedication

Vicente, at 98, was a criminal lawyer and a public servant in the region. He held positions as a city councilor, a legal consultant, and president of the Municipal Chamber. Cylma, aged 91, devoted her time to charitable work and spiritualism, founding a social work that continues to thrive.

“They were photos that captured the most stylish people of the time. Today they would surely be on pages like Pinterest,”

More than 13% of US marriages end due to the death of a spouse, according to a recent study (CDC, 2023).

The Final Days

In April 2025, Cylma was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor, and her health rapidly declined. Vicente, struggling with a broken arm and his wife’s illness, began to deteriorate emotionally. Cylma passed in the morning of June 10. On that same day, Vicente died in the afternoon.

The couple was married for 67 years.

Lasting Legacy

Vicente and Cylma were buried side by side. Their commitment to each other serves as an enduring message of love, faithfulness, and the importance of family. Their story continues to inspire those who believe that true love transcends even death.
