Niterói to Open Major New Health Center, expanding Access to Specialized Care
Niterói, Brazil – residents of Niterói will soon have access to a comprehensive new health facility focused on diagnostic exams, medical imaging, and specialized consultations. The “Super Center,” announced recently by city officials,aims to significantly reduce wait times and bolster the city’s public healthcare network.
The new center is the latest in a series of substantial investments in Niterói’s healthcare infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to improving access to quality medical services for its citizens. With a projected impact on thousands of residents, the Super Center will consolidate specialized care, streamline diagnostic processes, and position Niterói as a regional leader in public health. The facility is slated to open in 2025, adding to ongoing improvements already underway across the municipality.
the Super Center’s arrival builds on recent initiatives including the ”Fila Zero Programme,” designed to eliminate waitlists for SUS (Unified health System) exams through strategic partnerships. The Miguelote Viana Municipal Laboratory has also recently expanded its capacity to process 200,000 exams monthly.
Further bolstering the healthcare workforce, the city has hired 267 new health professionals. Recent facility improvements include the inauguration of modules for the Serrão and Juca Branco Family Medical Programs, benefiting 5,000 residents, and the reopening of the Morro do Céu Module, serving nearly 1,000 families. Additionally, the Women’s Reception Nucleus (NUAM) opened at Hospital Carlos Tortelly, while Ward 2 underwent renovation and CAPSI MONTEIRO LOBATO, which handles approximately 80 daily visits, received improvements. The Piratininga Regional Polyclinic has also been fully renovated, offering modernized infrastructure.
City officials state the Super Center is intended to consolidate Niterói’s position as a reference point for quality public health, expanding the municipal network and increasing efficiency in access to specialized exams and consultations.
