Nissan Restructures Global Design Operations, Consolidating Studios
Nissan is streamlining its design institution, consolidating five global studios into three primary centers: Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo/Atsugi, Japan. The move, announced by the automaker, aims to simplify design activities and is slated for completion by the end of the 2025 financial year.
The restructuring is a key component of Nissan’s broader “RE: Nissan” recovery plan, unveiled in May by CEO Ivan Espinosa, who was appointed in April. Facing pressure to restore profitability, Nissan is undertaking notable changes, including reducing global production capacity from 3.5 million to 2.5 million vehicles and shrinking its number of production sites from 17 to 10 by the 2027 financial year.
Nissan stated that its Los Angeles “studio Six” will serve as the primary design hub for the US market. The London design center will continue to support Nissan and its Renault partner across Africa, the Middle East, india, Europe, and Oceania.
The company has not disclosed the number of jobs impacted by the reorganization.
