Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Returns This Month
Limited slots available for new feature testing
Nintendo is reactivating its Switch Online Playtest Program, offering players a chance to evaluate a new functionality for the subscription service. The upcoming test phase commences later this month, continuing Nintendo’s strategy of involving its user base in development.
Testing the Waters
Introduced last year, the Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Program was initially framed as a method for Nintendo to “help test a new position for NSO.” Similar to its predecessor, this trial will be a temporary online event with a capped number of participants. A total of 40,000 invitations are slated for distribution.
How to Participate
Entry mechanics differ by region. Japanese players will be selected through a lottery system. For those in other eligible countries, participation operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Unfortunately, players from the Netherlands and Belgium are once again excluded from this specific test.
To be eligible for selection, prospective testers must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a valid Nintendo account.
- Maintain an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Reside in one of the designated countries: Japan, United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil, or Mexico.
In 2023, Nintendo reported over 125 million Nintendo Switch consoles sold worldwide, highlighting the vast potential audience for such playtest opportunities (Statista 2024).
