Nintendo Issues urgent Warning: Immediately Power Down Switch if Condensation Forms
Kyoto, Japan – Nintendo is advising Switch owners to immediately power off their consoles if any condensation develops, warning that moisture can lead to potential short circuits and permanent damage. The alert, posted by Nintendo’s official Japanese Twitter account, comes as temperature fluctuations increase the risk of condensation forming on the device.
The warning impacts the millions of Nintendo Switch users worldwide who rely on the hybrid console for gaming on the go and at home. While the Switch has been available for over seven years, Nintendo continues to release guidance to maximize the console’s lifespan and prevent defects. This latest advice underscores the importance of proper handling to avoid costly repairs or replacement.
According to Nintendo, condensation can occur when the console is moved between environments with drastically different temperatures. If moisture appears, users should wholly power down the Switch – by holding the power button for three seconds, selecting “Power Options,” and then “Switch Off” – and move it to a warmer room. The console should remain off until all traces of condensation have evaporated.
A simple press of the power button only initiates standby mode, not a full shutdown. Nintendo emphasizes a complete power cycle is crucial in these situations to prevent electrical damage. The company’s guidance aims to mitigate the risk of short circuits that could render the console unusable.
