Nintendo Announces Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake for Switch 2
Nintendo will launch a fully orchestrated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, supporting traditional Chinese, following an October 14, 2026 announcement.
Rebuilding Hyrule at 60 Frames Per Second
The new version rebuilds the land of Hyrule with upgraded lighting, advanced material textures, and running at 60 frames per second, according to a preview reported by IGN. Originally released on the Nintendo 64, series producer Eiji Aonuma described the project as a faithful interpretation of the 1998 classic.
Microphone Ocarina Controls and Redesigned Puzzles
The remake goes beyond a straightforward graphical update. IGN’s hands-on coverage notes that familiar rooms have been redesigned and puzzle layouts adjusted, requiring returning players to adapt their strategies. The title introduces full voice-acted cutscenes, expanded dialogue giving residents of Hyrule more character detail, and a symphonic arrangement of the original score.
Players can utilize the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to hum melodies directly into the game, allowing Link to respond with his ocarina in real-time, alongside traditional button inputs. Additional features include a “Trail of Time” tracking system for reviewing past progress and a “Pandemonium” hall where players can examine and re-battle defeated monsters.
Kaepora Gaebora’s Visual Overhaul
Among the character model updates, the wise owl Kaepora Gaebora received a significant visual overhaul. As reported by GameRant, the original bird’s round body and prominent thick eyebrows have been reshaped with refined feather details and softer proportions, altering the visual presentation of the guide who directs Link across Hyrule.

Pre-Orders Open with New Trailers and Amiibo
Promotional rollouts have varied by region, with Root Nation noting a 20-second Dutch-language trailer released prior to official launch windows featuring Master Sword sequences and combat against the lava dragon Volvagia.
Physical and digital pre-orders are currently open. Nintendo is offering an early purchase bonus for digital copies bought or redeemed before 11:59 PM on November 23, 2026, granting a 40th-anniversary digital wallpaper set. Two new amiibo figures depicting young Link and Zelda are scheduled for release in 2027.
Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether the owl’s verbose dialogue loops have been altered alongside the graphical refresh.
