Nicolò Tresoldi Rules Out Winter Transfer From Club Brügge Amid Elite European Interest
On October 6, 2026, Club Brügge striker Nicolò Tresoldi announced he has no plans to leave the Belgian club during the winter transfer window, prioritizing his development until the end of the season and the upcoming U21 European Championship. The 22-year-old forward has notched five goals across nine appearances in all competitions this campaign, maintaining the form that drew concrete interest from Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona during the previous summer.
Germany and Italy Compete for Tresoldi
While the player’s club future remains settled in Belgium through the current season, his international allegiance remains a subject of intense tripartite competition. Eligible to represent Germany, Italy, and Argentina, Tresoldi is being heavily pursued by both European football federations. The striker was born in Sardinia to an Argentine mother and former Italian professional footballer Emanuele Tresoldi, moving to Germany at age 13 and acquiring German citizenship in 2022. German senior team coach Jürgen Klopp and Italian manager Roberto Mancini have both held direct conversations with the player to pitch their respective national setups. Tresoldi confirmed that Klopp reached out personally to discuss a potential senior call-up, leaving a strong impression. Tresoldi intends to postpone his definitive choice between Germany and Italy until the summer.
Record-Chasing Form and the Road to Euro Qualification
Before any senior international decisions or summer transfer window speculations materialize, Tresoldi captains the German U21 side into a crucial European Championship qualifying match against Georgien in Bielefeld. Up to 17,166 tickets were sold by Monday morning, setting the largest home crowd for the German U21 team in 20 years. A victory guarantees Germany first place in the qualifying group and direct qualification to the final tournament in Albania and Serbia. Tresoldi has accumulated 16 goals for the youth selection, bringing him within two strikes of Pierre Littbarski’s record of 18 goals for the youth selection. Following a hat-trick against Malta and standout performances for a Club Brügge side that secured the league title, super cup, and domestic scoring honors last term with 28 goals and nine assists across 67 matches, the forward continues to shoulder heavy expectations on both club and international fronts.
The question of which senior national team jersey Tresoldi will wear remains entirely open, with the player withholding his final verdict until after the conclusion of the U21 European Championship next summer.
