No. 2 Indiana Men’s Soccer Hosts Kentucky on Tuesday Match

October 6, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

No. 2 Indiana men’s soccer hosts the University of Kentucky at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. nonconference match broadcast on the Big Ten Network, with the Hoosiers entering unbeaten and the Wildcats coming off their first win of the season.

Indiana Leads Big Ten Standings After Maryland Win

The Cream and Crimson enter the matchup holding a 3-1 victory over No. 6 Maryland secured on Friday, a result that pushed their season record to nine wins out of 11 matches. Junior forward Stephane Njike scored Indiana’s third goal against the Terrapins with an acrobatic display of flips. Indiana sits in pole position in the Big Ten standings with a 4-0-1 conference record and 13 points, sitting 10 points clear of Washington.

The Hoosiers finished their early-season nonconference slate 5-0-1, last facing a nonconference opponent on September 7 in a 3-1 win over the University of Denver. Against Big Ten competition, Indiana defeated ranked opponents in No. 6 Maryland and No. 15 Washington while drawing with No. 19 Wisconsin. Senior forward Oliver Moller-Jensen leads the squad with seven goals, followed by junior forward Easton Bogard with four and Njike with two.

Kentucky Seeks Momentum After First Win

Kentucky travels to Bloomington with a 1-5-3 record after securing its first victory of the season on Friday by defeating No. 23 Old Dominion University 4-2. Under head coach Johan Cedergren, the Wildcats reached the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight seasons but have struggled defensively this year, surrendering 19 goals across nine matches after allowing just 18 goals over 19 games last season.

Freshman forward Costa Iliadis and junior midfielder Michael Lee lead Kentucky with two goals apiece. Iliadis, a 20-year-old who previously played for MLS NEXT Pro side Toronto FC II and committed to Clemson University, scored against Western Michigan University and Ohio State but has not generated a shot on goal in his last three outings. Lee joined the Wildcats after two seasons at the University of Louisville, where he tied for a team-high three goals last year, including a score against Indiana.

Indiana Defense Faces Kentucky Goalkeeper Changes

Kentucky adjusted its lineup in the net following the departure of 2025 Sun Belt Goalkeeper of the Year Sebastian Conlon. Freshman goalkeeper Benjamin Rasmussen has started seven games with a 2.03 goals-against average, beating out fifth-year goalkeeper Gilles Monti, a transfer from Swiss fourth-tier club FC La Chaux-de-Fonds who has appeared twice and allowed four goals.

Indiana counters with the top defense in the Big Ten, conceding just 0.55 goals per game. Junior goalkeeper Michal Mroz leads the conference with an .842 save percentage. I think we take a lot of pride in defending with the ball, Indiana junior midfielder Charlie Heuer told reporters after Friday’s match. I think the best way to defend is to keep the ball, and you’ll see us possess and kind of sometimes take the air out of the game.

Indiana Won Last Meeting Against Kentucky

Over 350 days ago, Indiana secured a 79th-minute victory against Kentucky in Lexington. Both programs advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, though both exited by the second round. Speaking about Kentucky’s current trajectory, Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley noted in a September 30 press conference, I think there’s still a chance Kentucky would turn around, but it’s certainly not been the year that we’d expect from now.
