Nick Chubb to Texans: Deal Expected for Browns RB

Chubb Joins Texans, Seeks Fresh Start After Browns Exit

Star running back looks to revitalize career in Houston after injury-plagued seasons in Cleveland.

Nick Chubb, a former pro Bowl running back for the Cleveland Browns, is set to join the Houston Texans, marking a new chapter after a series of setbacks due to injuries. The move offers Chubb a chance to reignite his career in a different environment.

End of an Era in Cleveland

Chubb was drafted by the browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. Almost immediately, he became a key player, rushing for nearly 1,000 yards as a rookie, with a total of 10 touchdowns.

Did you know?
Nick Chubb‘s 6,843 career rushing yards rank third in Browns franchise history, trailing only Hall of Famers Jim Brown and leroy Kelly.

By his second season, Chubb had established himself as one of the league’s premier running backs, accumulating 1,494 rushing yards and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. For the next three seasons, he continued his dominant performance, securing three more Pro Bowl honors and consistently exceeding 1,000 rushing yards with at least eight touchdowns each year.

Injury Woes and Setbacks

Unfortunately, Chubb‘s 2023 season was cut short due to a critically important knee injury sustained during a Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season, a particularly tough blow considering he had previously overcome a similar injury in college while playing for Georgia.

His recovery extended into the 2024 season, causing him to miss the first six games. Chubb made his return in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, scoring a touchdown. However,he only managed 22 yards on 11 carries.

Another injury further shortened Chubb‘s 2024 season. A broken foot landed him on injured reserve, causing him to miss the Browns’ final three games. He concluded the season with 332 rushing yards and three touchdowns over eight games.

Texans Chance

After the Browns drafted running backs Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson to complement Jerome Ford, General Manager Andrew Berry indicated that Chubb‘s return to Cleveland was increasingly unlikely. Now, Chubb is poised for a fresh start with the Houston Texans, joining a running back roster that includes Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, and Dare Ogunbowale.

Pro Tip:
Running backs often experience a career resurgence after changing teams, benefiting from new coaching strategies and offensive schemes.

The NFL community may soon see Chubb in a Texans uniform, with Houston’s mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 10-11. According to Statista, the average career length for an NFL running back is only 2.57 years, making chubb‘s resilience and longevity particularly notable (Statista).
