NGX Group Project BLOOM: Fighting Malnutrition in Lagos, Nigeria

NGX⁣ Group Expands Nutrition Program, Bringing Hope to Children in ⁣Ajegunle

Lagos, Nigeria ⁤- Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) has‍ broadened its impactful community nutrition ‍initiative, Project BLOOM (Bringing Life to Our ‌Overlooked⁢ Minors), to ‌Ajegunle, lagos ⁢State. In partnership with ‍the lagos State Ministry of Health and ⁤Health​ Emergency Initiative (HEI), the program aims to combat malnutrition and improve the health of ​vulnerable children and their caregivers.

The Ajegunle outreach, held at the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat, follows‌ a triumphant pilot program in Yaba. The initial⁢ pilot revealed a ⁢critical need, with over 61% of⁤ children screened requiring urgent medical intervention. Encouragingly, follow-up‍ monitoring​ showed that nearly half (48.8%) of⁢ those children have experienced ​significant nutritional recovery, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness.

During the Ajegunle event,over 120 children received vital⁣ Ready-to-Use Therapeutic ‍Foods (RUTFs) and thorough ​health ⁤screenings.Mothers and caregivers participated in workshops focused on preparing affordable,nutritious‌ meals and practicing good hygiene. Initial ‍screenings identified 69 children with moderate malnutrition, 29 with‍ severe⁤ malnutrition, and 24 ⁤at ‍risk.The program emphasizes early detection and ⁢ongoing care​ through‍ local Primary Health ‌Centres.

NGX Group employees played a key role, volunteering alongside health workers to assist with⁤ screenings, data ⁣collection, and ⁢training. This reflects ⁤the ⁣company’s dedication‍ to social responsibility and community engagement.

Dr. ⁢Pascal Achunine, Executive⁣ Director‌ of HEI, highlighted the urgency of the situation and the power‍ of collaboration: ⁢”The results prove that when the public and private sectors work together, we can⁤ save lives and restore hope.”

Dr. ⁣Oladeinde Ebenezer⁣ Oluwaseun, representing the Lagos State Health District V, praised ​NGX Group ‍and ‍HEI for their commitment,⁤ noting the initiative’s alignment with the state’s existing health programs.

Project⁤ BLOOM directly supports‌ Sustainable Development‍ Goals ‌2 (Zero Hunger),3 (Good Health ⁢and Well-being),and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). NGX Group plans to​ expand​ the program ​to other underserved communities across Lagos State,continuing ⁣its commitment​ to improving the health and well-being of Nigeria’s ‍future generations.
