NGX Group Expands Nutrition Program, Bringing Hope to Children in Ajegunle
Lagos, Nigeria - Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) has broadened its impactful community nutrition initiative, Project BLOOM (Bringing Life to Our Overlooked Minors), to Ajegunle, lagos State. In partnership with the lagos State Ministry of Health and Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), the program aims to combat malnutrition and improve the health of vulnerable children and their caregivers.
The Ajegunle outreach, held at the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat, follows a triumphant pilot program in Yaba. The initial pilot revealed a critical need, with over 61% of children screened requiring urgent medical intervention. Encouragingly, follow-up monitoring showed that nearly half (48.8%) of those children have experienced significant nutritional recovery, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness.
During the Ajegunle event, over 120 children received vital Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs) and thorough health screenings.Mothers and caregivers participated in workshops focused on preparing affordable, nutritious meals and practicing good hygiene. Initial screenings identified 69 children with moderate malnutrition, 29 with severe malnutrition, and 24 at risk. The program emphasizes early detection and ongoing care through local Primary Health Centres.
NGX Group employees played a key role, volunteering alongside health workers to assist with screenings, data collection, and training. This reflects the company’s dedication to social responsibility and community engagement.
“Seeing almost half of the children identified with malnutrition now in recovery is truly inspiring,” said Temi Popoola, Group Managing Director/CEO of NGX Group. “It confirms that our partnership is driving real change.
