Elyria, Ohio – A 64-year-old man from Newark, Ohio, was taken into custody on August 7th following a disturbance at a local restaurant and subsequent threats made against Elyria police officers. The suspect, identified as Amir Nassirharand, allegedly referenced fallen Lorain Police Officer Phillip Wagner during the encounter, according to an Elyria Police Department report.

Officers responded to a call at Texas Roadhouse, located at 245 Market Drive, at approximately 10:20 p.m. on August 7th. Restaurant staff requested assistance in removing nassirharand, who was reportedly disrupting other patrons with loud yelling and profane language. upon arrival, officers located Nassirharand seated on a bench outside a nearby Target store.

A routine check of Nassirharand’s data revealed an outstanding summons for disorderly conduct issued earlier that day. While attempting to discuss the restaurant incident with the suspect, he repeatedly threatened the officers, stating, “you guys are going to go down like (Lorain Police Officer Phillip) Wagner.”

Officer Wagner tragically died on July 24th after being ambushed while having lunch on River Bend Drive in Lorain. The incident remains a source of deep grief and shock within the law enforcement community and the wider region.

Nassirharand was subsequently arrested and charged with intimidation, a third-degree felony, and persistent disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He is currently being held at the Lorain County Jail on a $1.4 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on august 14th.
