New Start Menu Rolling Out to Windows 11 Users
Microsoft has begun deploying a redesigned Start menu to Windows 11 users, marking a significant update to the operating system’s core interface. The phased rollout commenced on July 23, 2024, and aims to enhance personalization and streamline the user experiance.
The update introduces several key changes, including the ability to fully detach app icons from the pinned section, allowing for a cleaner and more customizable layout. Users can now drag and drop icons to rearrange them freely, and the Start menu will dynamically adjust to accommodate pinned and recommended items. This addresses a common request from users seeking greater control over their Start menu organization. Microsoft previously limited customization options, requiring pinned apps to remain connected to the grid.
“We’re delivering on feedback to give you more control over your Start menu,” stated a Microsoft spokesperson in a recent blog post. “This update allows you to personalize your layout in a way that best suits your workflow.”
The rollout is occurring in stages, meaning not all users will receive the update simultaneously.Microsoft plans to complete the deployment by the end of July, ensuring a smooth transition for its vast user base. The company has provided instructions on how to check for and install the update through Windows Update settings. This update builds upon previous Start menu improvements and signals Microsoft’s continued commitment to refining the Windows 11 experience based on user feedback.
