New Music Friday: BTS, Taylor Swift, Luke Combs & More Releases
BTS released their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, on Friday, marking the group’s first full-length release in approximately three years and nine months. The 14-track album, driven by individual member introspection, arrives ahead of a world tour kicking off April 25.
The lead single, “SWIM,” explores themes of perseverance through life’s challenges. The accompanying music video, filmed in Lisbon, features actress Lili Reinhart. During a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the band members expressed their pride in their journey and the strength of their collective support, according to reports.
The release of ARIRANG has already generated significant attention, with the album nearly doubling the opening-day Spotify numbers of Harry Styles’ previous release, according to Variety. Reviews have noted the album’s ambition and the group’s continued success despite their evolving status, as highlighted by The New York Times.
The album’s release has also sparked discussion about the definition of “Korean-ness” in music, as explored by Teen Vogue. Fans have overwhelmingly embraced the new music, selecting ARIRANG as their favorite new release this week, according to Billboard.
Elsewhere in music news, Taylor Swift will make a special appearance at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she is the most nominated artist with nine nominations. John Mellencamp will be honored with the 2026 iHeartRadio Icon Award, and performances are also slated from Kehlani, Weezer, and others. The awards show will air live on FOX on March 26.
The Country Music Hall of Fame will induct Paul Overstreet, The Stanley Brothers, and Tim McGraw in 2026. McGraw expressed his gratitude, stating that “Everything good in my life has approach from Country Music.”
Florida Georgia Line reunited onstage in Nashville to celebrate Jason Aldean’s achievement of 31 number one hits, performing their 2018 chart-topper, “You Make It Easy.” Aldean was joined by Blake Shelton, Travis Tritt, and Alabama during the celebration.
Death Cab for Cutie announced their 11th studio album, I Built You A Tower, set for release on June 5. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and various band members’ home studios. Ben Gibbard described the new record as reminiscent of earlier Death Cab for Cutie work, and highlighted “Trap Door” as a favorite track. The first single, “Riptides,” addresses the challenge of navigating personal struggles amidst global tragedy.
