Kia Sportage Hybrid Set to Redefine SUV Experience in Q3 2025
Frankfurt, Germany – Kia is poised to launch its latest iteration of the Sportage SUV in European dealerships during the third quarter of 2025, promising a significant upgrade in perceived quality, technology, efficiency, and driving dynamics. The new model, built on a European short-wheelbase platform measuring 2,680 mm, aims to balance agile handling with generous interior space, accommodating passengers comfortably even in the rear seats. Luggage capacity is also a strong suit, with the petrol (ICE) version offering 562 liters and the hybrid (HEV) variant boasting 587 liters of basic storage.
During a recent test drive, a comparison was made between two key versions: a 150 horsepower 1.6 T-gdi petrol model equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the more fuel-efficient HEV variant. the HEV features a full hybrid system that pairs the same 1.6 turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 239 horsepower and managed by a six-speed automatic transmission.
The test route, originating from Frankfurt, encompassed a diverse 50-kilometer itinerary including city driving, ring roads, and hilly terrain. While the purely internal combustion engine version was acknowledged for its spirited performance and overall driving engagement, it was noted to be somewhat compromised by noticeable cabin noise during more assertive acceleration. This version recorded average fuel consumption figures of approximately 8 liters per 100 kilometers.
In contrast,the Full Hybrid HEV version proved to be more compelling. The transition between the internal combustion engine and electric power was described as seamless, and the overall quietness of the cabin was a standout feature across all driving conditions. Despite being equipped with all-wheel drive,the HEV achieved an average fuel consumption of around 7 liters per 100 kilometers. Its performance was notably extraordinary in urban environments, where the ability to operate on electric power for short distances contributed to an excellent driving experience. The vehicle also comes equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and active lane-keeping assist.
The upcoming kia Sportage is set to solidify its reputation as a versatile SUV, with enhancements across all critical areas. Even in its hybrid configuration, the Sportage is positioned as an accessible and practical choice, while simultaneously offering an elevated daily driving experience.
