New Haven Apartment Residents Outraged Over Severe Rat Infestation
Residents at Kensington Square Apartments in New Haven, Connecticut, said a rat infestation has taken over their homes, leaving them outraged as they demand accountability from management and local authorities. wtnh.com reported that tenants have reached out repeatedly to building ownership, pest control services, and the Livable City Initiative without seeing meaningful improvements to their living conditions.
Tenant Complaints at Kensington Square
Living conditions inside the apartment building have deteriorated to a level that tenants describe as unacceptable. A resident identified as Rivera stated that Kensington Square management is literally doing nothing to resolve the infestation. Another resident, Albino, reported that scheduled pest control visits routinely fail to materialize. “They don’t even come,” Albino said. According to Albino, extermination services need to happen every two days due to the severity of the situation, yet technicians remain absent.
Tenants emphasize that they want to retain their housing but refuse to stay silent. “We want management overall to get rid of this situation because we do live here. We do not want to lose housing because we are doing all this, but we cannot stay silent for a situation like this,” Albino said. “This is not normal; we cannot normalize a situation like this.”
Community Builders Schedules Weekly Extermination Services
The Community Builders, the nonprofit owner and manager of Kensington Square Apartments, issued a statement addressing the complaints. The organization stated that the wellbeing and safety of resident families remain its highest priority. Management acknowledged the recent reports and noted that an exterminator is scheduled to be on-site every Wednesday, while individual apartments receive preventive treatments at least three times a year.
The nonprofit owner stated that additional services are deployed when specific complaints arrive. In response to the latest tenant reports, Kensington Square increased service frequency, conducted additional inspections, and sealed identified openings. Management confirmed that monitoring will continue alongside further corrective actions where necessary.
Municipal Assessment in New Haven
City involvement remains active as tenants push for external oversight. The Livable City Initiative confirmed that municipal officials are currently assessing the property conditions and working to address the unresolved issues cited by residents.
