New Darkwing Duck Series Greenlit for Disney+ Featuring Mark Hamill and Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham are producing the project for Point Grey Pictures. Tad Stones, who created the original Darkwing Duck series, consulted on the development of these new adventures.

Expressing enthusiasm for the greenlight, the Point Grey team stated in production notes, “Disney said ‘Let’s get dangerous’ and we said ‘hell yeah.'” Tad Stones added, “Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series. The new creative team has certainly amped up the action and comedy without forgetting the Disney heart. This series places DW in the literary tradition of Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes, heroes whose lore has been reinterpreted by multiple creators in multiple mediums.”

Plot Premises and Franchise Lore

A rebellious teen named Duckie, who knows all about his heroic past, shows up to pull the ego-fueled vigilante back into battle. Together, the duo must fight old enemies including Negaduck and Megavolt while reuniting with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana to save the universe.

Stellar Voice Cast Lineup

The newly announced voice cast features Mark Hamill as Drake Mallard, also known as Darkwing Duck. Seth Rogen takes on the role of Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan voices Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar portrays Duckie. Additional cast members include Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.

The original Darkwing Duck series was produced by Disney Television Animation and earned an Emmy Award nomination. Spanning 91 episodes, it originally premiered on the Disney Channel before airing on ABC and in syndication starting in 1991. The television run concluded in 1995, followed by brief syndication windows through 1997. Beyond television, the franchise expanded into video games via releases for the Nintendo NES in 1992 and Game Boy in 1993, as well as comic book appearances in the 1994 Disney Afternoon “Fun-Filled 1st Issue!” alongside DuckTales, TaleSpin, and Goof Troop. The character also made a recent appearance in the modern iteration of DuckTales.
