New Book Explores Populism and Post-Truth in South Korea and Germany
New Academic Volume Examines Global Populism and Post-Truth Politics
The Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) and the Sogang University in Seoul released a new 252-page interdisciplinary volume in 2026, examining how populist movements and post-truth communication strategies shape political debates and media landscapes globally. Titled Populism and Post-Truth. Interdisciplinary Perspectives from South Korea and Germany, the book is edited by Prof. Dr. Klaus Stüwe and Laura Gabler.
Roots in the Eichstätt Colloquium and International Collaboration
The publication stems from the 14th German-Korean Colloquium, which took place in Eichstätt in October 2024. For over twenty years, these colloquia have been a fixture of the scientific partnership between the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and Seoul’s Sogang University. Researchers across political science, constitutional law, history, linguistics, theology, literary and cultural studies, and gender studies contributed to the volume.
Global Case Studies from Capitol Hill to Seoul
The volume covers a wide geographical and thematic spectrum, including the storming of the United States Capitol, Donald Trump’s social media agenda-setting, Brexit narratives, and populist notions of European sovereignty. It also addresses gender conflicts within digital spaces in South Korea and the complex relationship between right-wing populism and Christian values. The book aims to broaden perspectives on phenomena typically analyzed solely through a Western lens.
