Berlin, Germany – Pia Greiten has been elected as the new president of Athletes Germany eV (Athletes Germany), succeeding karla Borger at the institution’s recent general meeting. The leadership change marks a new chapter for the athlete advocacy group as it continues to represent the interests of German athletes outside of the Olympic sphere.
Founded in 2017 by max Hartung and Karla borger, Athletes Germany provides a platform for athletes to voice concerns and shape policy within the non-Olympic sports sector. The election of Greiten, alongside a significant turnover on the executive board, signals a period of transition and renewal for the organization. Departing vice president Tobias Preuß (water polo), Dajana Eitberger (luge), Fabienne Königstein (long-distance running), and Yero Ndiaye (kickboxing) are stepping down after contributing to the organization’s growth and impact.
“I am convinced that the new executive board will continue the work with just as much commitment and achieve important milestones for the well-being of the athletes,” said Borger, who chose not to seek re-election. Johannes Herber, managing director of Athletes Germany, thanked the outgoing board members for their “effort and passion” and their “decisive impact on the profile of athletes in Germany.”
During the general meeting, members approved the financial report, discharged the previous executive board and managing director, and ratified the budget for 2026. Herber also presented updates on the association’s current activities and future plans.
