Neuchâtel Tags Arrests: Church Vandalism Investigation

Neuchâtel Police Arrest Two in Vandalism Inquiry

Neuchâtel,⁢ Switzerland – October 10, 2025 – Two individuals, a Swiss and a French national between the ages of 20​ and 30,‌ were taken into custody Thursday by⁢ neuchâtel police following⁢ an investigation into property damage that occurred in the city in late July and ⁣early August. The arrests took place at a self-managed collective in Pontareuse, part of the commune of Boudry.

The investigation centers on acts of​ vandalism targeting several locations in Neuchâtel, ​including the historic Collegiate Church​ and the⁢ ethnographic ‌Museum. The incidents,which involved‌ graffiti with messages ranging from anti-church sentiments too pro-Intifada and anti-capitalist slogans,prompted a formal inquiry by⁣ the Public prosecutor’s Office. While⁢ the damage sparked local concern, the ⁣acts have not been ⁢claimed by any group.

According to a statement released Friday by the‌ Neuchâtel police and ⁢the public prosecutor,the two suspects were questioned but declined to provide statements. They have ​since been released pending the continuation of the investigation, which aims to determine the full extent of their‍ involvement ‌and the ‌precise circumstances surrounding the property damage. The Collegiate Church, a prominent ‌landmark in Neuchâtel, holds ⁢notable cultural and historical importance for the region. Damage to⁣ such sites⁣ often raises concerns about public order and the preservation of heritage.
