Network Buildout is Part of Spectrum’s $7 Billion Rural Construction Initiative

Spectrum Expands Rural Broadband in Freestone County

Gigabit Internet and More Now Available to Hundreds of Homes

Hundreds of rural homes and businesses in Freestone County now have access to advanced Spectrum services, including high-speed internet, mobile, TV, and voice. This expansion marks a significant step in bringing gigabit connectivity to underserved areas.

Investing in Digital Infrastructure

Spectrum, a leading rural internet provider, is rolling out its comprehensive suite of services to over 780 locations across Fairfield, Streetman, and Teague. This initiative is part of a larger, multi-year commitment by Spectrum, backed by over $7 billion in private investment. The company aims to add more than 100,000 miles of fiber-optic network, ultimately reaching over 1.7 million new locations nationwide with symmetrical and multi-gigabit internet speeds.

“Spectrum is bringing gigabit broadband to unserved communities in Freestone County,” stated Brad Shely, Vice President of Construction for Spectrum’s Texas-Louisiana Service Area. “Our investment is making it possible to deliver high-value broadband, mobile, TV and voice services in the most rural areas of Freestone County. We are providing residents and small businesses superior connectivity at highly competitive prices, backed by a team of skilled local technicians and 100% U.S.-based customer service.”

High-Speed Internet and Bundled Services

Residents and businesses can now access internet speeds up to 1 Gbps, along with Advanced WiFi. Spectrum Internet plans start with 500 Mbps, free of modem fees, data caps, or contracts. Spectrum Business Internet offers 1 Gbps download speeds with 500 Mbps options. The company is also upgrading its network to provide gigabit upstream speeds across its entire 41-state service area.

State Representative Angelia Orr commented on the development: “Thanks to help from Spectrum, we are bringing high-speed internet access to more residents and businesses in Freestone County. In the digital age, it is important for rural communities, like those in House District 13, to have the ability to utilize the digital tools increasingly needed to succeed.”

In addition to robust internet options, Spectrum is now offering Spectrum Mobile™ and Spectrum TV®. Spectrum Mobile, noted as the nation’s fastest-growing mobile provider, offers nationwide 5G with unlimited lines starting at $30 per month or by-the-gig options. Spectrum TV provides over 270 HD channels and 85,000 On Demand titles, accessible through the highly-rated Spectrum TV App on various platforms.

The expansion highlights a growing trend of telecommunications companies investing in rural areas. For instance, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, broadband availability in rural America has been steadily increasing, with initiatives like this playing a crucial role in closing the digital divide (U.S. Commerce Department, 2023).
