Netflix adds Ben Affleck’s Animals and Ice Age films in October

October 17, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Netflix adds a wide selection of licensed and original films in October 2026, bypassing horror titles to feature political thrillers, eco-satire, and classic blockbusters led by Ben Affleck’s crime drama Animals, which whats-on-netflix.com reported drew 23.8 million views in its opening days.

Ben Affleck Leads October Netflix Originals With Animals

Ben Affleck directs, co-writes, and stars in the R-rated kidnapping thriller Animals, playing Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball whose son is abducted during a tight campaign race. Kerry Washington co-stars as his wife Abigail, while Gillian Anderson plays a political fixer singled out by critic Andrew Morgan in a 3/5 review for whats-on-netflix.com as the film’s standout performance. The project required a lengthy development path that initially attached Matt Damon to the lead role before Affleck assumed the part. Following its release, the film claimed the #1 spot on the English movie charts with 23.8 million views.

Alongside the political thriller, director Romain Gavras presents the English-language debut Sacrifice. Gavras co-wrote the script with Will Arbery, targeting celebrity activism and billionaire hypocrisy. Meanwhile, documentary feature The Disciple: A Wu-Tang Fable tracks Dutch-Moroccan superfan Tarik Azzougarh, known as Cilvaringz, and his work with RZA on the single-copy album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Directed by Joanna Natasegara, the film explores modern music economics and fandom following its Sundance premiere.

Classic Franchises and Licensed Hits Expand the Library

Licensed titles arriving in October bring major studio library additions to the streaming platform. Under a Disney licensing agreement, all five original 20th Century Ice Age films—Ice Age, The Meltdown, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Continental Drift, and Collision Course—debuted globally on October 4, whats-on-netflix.com reported. The collection claimed half of the English movie top 10 during its first week on the service. This release operates as a three-month promotional window ahead of Ice Age: Boiling Point heading to theaters in February 2027, with the current titles scheduled to leave the platform in early January.

Animation also brings Transformers One (2024) to the catalog. Directed by Josh Cooley and starring Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry as Orion Pax and D-16, the Cybertron-set prequel explores the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Additional additions include the Bleecker Street comedy Save Yourselves! (2020), starring Sunita Mani and John Reynolds as a couple missing an alien invasion during a digital detox. Michael Mann’s crime epic Heat (1995) anchors the classic lineup with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, while Paramount supplies Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000) and Gladiator II (2024) for an October 21 double bill. Edward Zwick’s chess drama Pawn Sacrifice (2014) arrives on October 30.
