Necromental Turns the Incremental Game Genre with a “Reverse Midas Touch”
Barcelona, Spain – Digitality Games is developing Necromental, an incremental game aiming to blend the genre’s power fantasy with RPG elements, offering players a unique twist: a “reverse Midas touch.” CEO Luis Nogueira detailed the concept at Barcelona Game Fest, explaining the game’s core mechanic centers around necromancy and building an army from the fallen.
Unlike traditional incremental games focused solely on escalating numbers, Necromental seeks to provide narrative context and a sense of progression akin to role-playing games. “What we’re trying to do is really bring out the fantasy of power from increments…but give it a little bit more RPG to it,” Nogueira said. “So, a little bit of dungeon crawling as well, a little bit of mystery, a little bit of puzzles, we’re just giving the world a little bit more context so you can actually get a story behind what you’re doing.”
Players take on the role of a spirit mage whose touch doesn’t turn things to gold, but instead raises the deceased as allies. ”As a spirit mage, you have a kind of reverse Midas touch on everything you touch. Everything that dies around you is now your ally. So your army is constantly growing in size, but it’s also growing in power and capability,” Nogueira explained.
Currently in a prototype/vertical phase, Necromental is slated for release in spooky season 2026.
