Grand Island Native Shares Homecoming Crown in rare Tie at UNL
LINCOLN – Claire Kelly, a senior from Grand island, nebraska, is one of three students crowned homecoming royalty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this year, following an unprecedented tie in student voting. Kelly shares the honor with Caden Connelly of Lincoln and Ava Hollingsworth of omaha.
The three were elected by the student body in an online vote held October 1st and 2nd, and officially recognized during halftime of the Nebraska-Michigan State football game on October 4th. A total of 2,387 ballots were cast – representing almost 10% of the student population – with Hollingsworth and Kelly receiving an equal number of votes.
Kelly is pursuing a degree in elementary education within the College of Education and Human Sciences. Beyond her studies, she has been actively involved in campus life as a New Student Enrollment orientation leader, a mentor with the Nebraska Human Resources Institute, and a strengths coach at the Clifton Strengths Institute. She also serves as President of the Chi Omega sorority. She is the daughter of Brian and Stacy Kelly.
Connelly, majoring in fisheries and wildlife in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, is involved with the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program and is launching the business CMC Media. He has also contributed to the Platte Basin Timelapse project. His parents are Lonnie Connelly and Lorinda Rice.
Hollingsworth is a student in both the College of business – majoring in accounting, finance, and management - and the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management. she is a member of kappa Alpha Theta and currently serves as president of the Panhellenic Executive Council. Her parents are Robert and Addie Hollingsworth.
