IMSS Welfare Hidalgo Promotes HPV Vaccination and Cervical Cancer Prevention Through National Campaign

Pachuca⁢ de Soto, 29 Sep /News Hidalgo/. – IMSS Welfare Hidalgo is actively participating in ‍the National Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) 2025 campaign, running from September 17th to December‌ 19th,offering‍ vaccinations at all 484 of its health units across the state. The campaign aims to strengthen cervical⁢ cancer prevention efforts.

Vaccination is available for ⁢several⁤ key groups: fifth-grade primary school students, 11-year-old children not enrolled in school, girls and adolescents aged 9-19 receiving treatment for ⁣sexual violence⁤ (with preference given within the ‌first 72 hours), and individuals aged 11-49 living with HIV.

beyond‍ vaccination, IMSS Welfare Hidalgo emphasizes the importance of regular screenings like Pap ⁢smears and colposcopies for early detection ⁤of HPV-related abnormalities. Cervical cancer is the ‍fourth most common cancer globally in women and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Mexico, highlighting the critical need for proactive prevention and timely diagnosis.

The Colposcopy Clinic at Maternal IMSS Welfare provides free care to women referred from first-level health units. This service is a key component of coordinated efforts to detect cervical cancer early and provide extensive care.

Miriam Ortega Pimentel, Head of the Hospital Obstetrics Service, explained that colposcopy allows for examination of the vulva, vagina, and cervix to identify potential lesions. If⁢ abnormalities are‍ detected, a biopsy can be performed to confirm a diagnosis and ⁣determine appropriate treatment.

Ortega Pimentel stressed that HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection, notably among women under 30, and can lead to precancerous lesions that can develop into cancer if left untreated.

IMSS Welfare Hidalgo recommends‌ the following⁤ preventative measures: annual Pap smears, HPV vaccination, consistent condom use during sexual intercourse, and beginning preventative screenings at age 21, or earlier if‌ sexually active.

IMSS Welfare Hidalgo reaffirms its dedication to the health of women‍ and adolescents, providing accessible prevention, guidance, and timely care services at all its health units.
