NASA Offers Public a Chance to “Fly” to the Moon on Artemis II Mission
WASHINGTON – In an unprecedented move, NASA is inviting the public to send their names on a digital voyage around the moon aboard the Artemis II spacecraft, scheduled for launch in April 2026. Participants will receive a unique digital boarding pass as proof of their participation in the historic mission, marking humanity’s return to lunar orbit after 52 years.
This initiative allows anyone to become a symbolic part of the Artemis II crew, a four-person mission critical to paving the way for future lunar landings with Artemis III and, ultimately, crewed missions to Mars. The names submitted will be stored on an SD card and carried aboard the Orion spacecraft, offering a tangible connection to the exploration of deep space for individuals worldwide. The launch was initially planned for 2025 but was delayed due to issues identified with the Orion vessel’s thermal shield.
To participate, individuals must submit their first name, last name, and a unique digital identifier through a dedicated NASA portal. The collected data will be digitally etched onto the SD card, ensuring a lasting record of public involvement in this landmark achievement. Following the ten-day mission, participants can download their personalized boarding pass, commemorating their “flight” with Artemis II.
