Islamabad’s long-delayed Model Jail and a hostel for the National Police Academy (NPA) are nearing completion, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspecting progress on both projects Friday, according to reports from Pakistani news outlets.
Naqvi visited the construction sites to assess the current status of the facilities, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work, 24NewsHD TV reported. He examined the barracks at the Model Jail, a project officials say is 85 percent complete in its first phase after facing 15 years of delays. The minister underscored the urgent need for a new jail in the federal capital, citing security concerns.
The inspection of the NPA hostel focused on the ongoing construction of security walls and the planned establishment of a Central Control Room for digital monitoring of the facility, according to The Nation (Pakistan). Naqvi directed officials to implement double shifts to expedite the completion of both projects. He emphasized that the modern infrastructure of the NPA would significantly enhance police training capabilities.
Key officials accompanying the minister during the visits included Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Mohammad Ali Randhawa, and FIA DG Dr. Usman Anwar, ProPakistani reported.
The completion of the Model Jail is intended to address capacity issues and improve security within Islamabad’s correctional system. The NPA hostel aims to provide improved accommodation and training facilities for Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).
