Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping: FBI Seeks Suspect in Masked Video

TUCSON, Ariz. — The grainy black-and-white image, released by the FBI on February 10, 2026, remains the central focus of the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today” display host Savannah Guthrie. The image depicts an individual approaching Guthrie’s Tucson home at 1:47 a.m. On February 1, 2026, tampering with a security camera.

The person in the image is fully obscured by a balaclava, gloves and a backpack. A handgun is visible holstered at their waist. After noticing the Nest doorbell camera, the individual attempts to cover the lens with their hand before searching the yard for additional materials to obstruct the view, ultimately using greenery. Despite the release of the image over two weeks ago, authorities have yet to identify a suspect.

On Tuesday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that DNA recovered from a glove found two miles from Guthrie’s property matched the gloves worn by the masked individual. Though, the DNA did not yield a match in CODIS, the FBI’s national DNA database, according to ABC News. Investigators are now exploring genetic genealogy options to attempt to identify the individual.

Sheriff Nanos has publicly appealed to the community for assistance, drawing a parallel to the case of the Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski, who was ultimately identified through a tip from his brother after his manifesto was published. “I believe somebody out there knows who this is,” Nanos told the Daily Mail. “I believe somebody out there can look at that video and go, I know exactly who that is.”

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s whereabouts, as reported by Fox News. Investigators have determined that Guthrie ate dinner with relatives and was dropped off at her home around 9:48 p.m. On January 31, 2026. Her garage door closed at 9:50 p.m. Her Nest doorbell camera went offline at 1:47 a.m. The following morning, and her pacemaker lost connection with her smartphone at 2:28 a.m. She was reported missing around noon on February 1, 2026.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Instagram on Sunday, pleading with those involved in her mother’s disappearance. “And I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is that it’s never too late, and you’re not lost or alone, and We see never too late to do the right thing,” she said. “We are here and we believe, and we believe in the essential goodness of every human being, and it’s never too late.”

Authorities have stated there is no current evidence to suggest Nancy Guthrie is not alive, according to ABC7, but family members have expressed concern for her health, as she was kidnapped without her heart medication. Investigators believe the clothing, backpack, and face mask worn by the suspect may have been purchased at a Walmart and are working with the retailer to identify a potential buyer.

Although the DNA from the glove has not yielded a suspect, testing of DNA evidence recovered from Guthrie’s home is ongoing. The results of those tests are currently pending. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to urge anyone with information to contact them at 520-351-4900 or to call 911.
