Nancy Guthrie Disappearance: Search Warrant Served, New Leads Emerge

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Pima County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team executed a search warrant Friday night at a residence near E Orange Grove Road and N. First Avenue in Tucson, Arizona, as part of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. Two individuals were removed from the home, according to law enforcement sources, though their connection to the case remains unclear.

The operation, which began Friday evening, unfolded approximately two miles from Guthrie’s home, where she was last seen on January 31. Authorities have described the case as a kidnapping, noting that Guthrie was taken from her residence without her essential heart medication. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the “law enforcement activity” but declined to provide further details, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. The FBI has not yet commented on the matter. ABC10 reported on the initial SWAT operation.

The search warrant execution follows a series of investigative developments over the past thirteen days. On Tuesday, investigators released footage of an armed individual, clad in a balaclava, gloves, and a backpack, approaching Guthrie’s home and manipulating a Nest security camera at 1:47 a.m. The night of her abduction. Later that same day, a man was briefly detained in Rio Rico, a community roughly twelve miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, but was released without charges after denying involvement. The Wrap detailed the timeline of events.

The investigation has been complicated by a series of ransom notes. Although initial notes received by news outlets were deemed credible, a subsequent note sent directly to the Guthrie family was attributed to an impostor claiming to reside in Hawthorne. Another ransom demand was delivered to a local television station last week. Authorities have stated they have no evidence linking the author of the notes to Guthrie’s actual whereabouts, but acknowledged the February 2nd note contained details about the victim’s home that had not been publicly released, lending it a degree of authenticity.

On Friday, TMZ reported receiving a communication from someone claiming knowledge of Guthrie’s abduction and demanding payment of the $100,000 FBI reward in Bitcoin, citing distrust of federal law enforcement. TMZ founder Harvey Levin relayed the message to CNN, stating the sender warned of an “international manhunt” to locate the individual with information. NewsNationNow has been following the ransom note developments.

In addition to the search warrant execution, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced Friday the recovery of several gloves, including some found near Guthrie’s home, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis. Investigators have also discovered DNA evidence at Guthrie’s residence that does not match her or any known family members. Efforts to identify the source of the DNA are ongoing. The New York Post reported on the DNA evidence and the search for suspects.

As of Saturday, February 14, 2026, Nancy Guthrie remains missing, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not announced any arrests in connection with her disappearance. The investigation continues, with authorities pursuing multiple leads and awaiting the results of forensic analysis.
