TikTok Food Vlogger Faces Backlash for Critical Peyek Review
Jakarta, Indonesia – Food vlogger Nanakoot is facing criticism after a recent TikTok review of Pinkan Mambo’s teri fish peyek, where he described the snack as excessively hard and even suggested it was made from leftover fried dough. The video, uploaded on Thursday, September 5th, has sparked debate among Indonesian netizens regarding the appropriateness of his commentary.
Nanakoot, who boasts 9.7 million TikTok followers, praised the peyek’s improved packaging, noting it wasn’t oily. However, his assessment of the peyek itself drew ire. He stated the snack was “hard,” despite appearing crispy, and speculated the mixture contained remnants from other fried foods, labeling it an “anti-storm” peyek. The Rp. 150,000 per jar snack’s strong anchovy aroma was initially a positive point for the vlogger, who said it “smelled like sea water.”
The controversy stems from viewers perceiving Nanakoot’s comments as overly harsh and mocking towards the small business. Comments on the video accuse him of being unnecessarily critical and suggest he shoudl refrain from reviewing products he dislikes.”Please, don’t buy if it’s just a tender. It’s not good,” one user wrote. Another commented, “Brother, please, if you don’t like it, don’t be like that… it’s really content.”
Despite the criticism of the texture, Nanakoot did acknowledge the generous amount of fish in the peyek, stating, “There are quite a lot of fish, this is after being complained of ghoib [disappearing].” the incident highlights the growing influence of food vloggers and the potential impact of their reviews on small food businesses in Indonesia.
