Dr. Byong-jin YOU awarded Order of Civil Merit
Former Myongji university President Byong-Jin YOU has been awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Cheong Stripes, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to higher education, internationalization, and sports growth. The prestigious honor, the highest available to a private school faculty member, acknowledges Dr. YOU’s dedication to national and social progress across education, research, university innovation, and sports diplomacy.
Throughout a career spanning over 40 years, Dr. YOU has excelled in both academia and sports administration. He began his career as a professor of business administration at kwandong University in 1978,later serving as its president before taking the helm at Myongji university.
Dr.YOU’s commitment to sports is equally remarkable. He has held key positions including executive Committee Member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), roles on the Organising Committees for the 2003 Daegu Summer Universiade and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Head of the Korean Delegation for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, and Vice Chairman of the Organising Committee for the upcoming 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games. He also served as Chairman of the Korea University Sports Committee (KUSB) and Vice-Chairman of the Korea University Sports Council (KUSF).
Leonz Eder, President of FISU, praised Dr. YOU as “a strong advocate of FISU values in Korea,” highlighting his significant contributions to bringing both the World university Games and WUC to the contry. Eder noted Dr. YOU’s academic background and extensive network were instrumental in raising FISU’s profile in Korea.
