Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7: Thinner Design, Enhanced Features?
As **Samsung** gears up for its Unpacked event, anticipation is building around the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Will it address persistent user concerns and deliver a truly innovative foldable experience?
Design Overhaul on the Horizon
The design of **Samsung’s** Galaxy Z Fold series has remained largely consistent. While competitors like **Honor**, **Vivo**, and **Google** have pushed boundaries with slimmer designs, **Samsung** has focused on incremental improvements, resulting in robust hinges and polished software.
However, the Z Fold line has been criticized for lacking some cutting-edge hardware features seen in rival foldables. After a week of re-testing the Galaxy Z Fold 6 running One UI 7, **Kerry Wan** is more excited than ever about what **Samsung** has planned at Unpacked.
User Experience with the Z Fold 6
Transitioning from the **Honor Magic V3**, **Kerry Wan** noted the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s narrower cover screen, sufficient for quick interactions but less ideal for extended use. “I unfold the Galaxy Z Fold 6 more than I open my Magic V3 — not out of likeness but out of necessity,”
**Wan** stated.
Despite this, **Wan** prefers **Samsung’s** One UI over other Android interfaces. While **OnePlus Open’s** OxygenOS was previously a favorite due to its multitasking capabilities, One UI 7 offers a smoother, more customizable experience. According to Statista, **Android** users have an average of 40-60 apps on their phones, so ease of use is paramount (Statista 2023).
Desired Upgrades for the Z Fold 7
**Wan** identified three key areas for improvement in the Galaxy Z Fold 7:
- A wider cover screen for improved typing and content consumption.
- Top-notch cameras, as the Z Fold 6’s sensors are reliable but not flagship-level.
- Improved battery life to last through a full day of use.
Anticipated Features of the Galaxy Z Fold 7
**Samsung’s** recent teasers suggest that the company is addressing at least two of these concerns with what they are calling “the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet.”
Rumors suggest a wider cover screen and a significant reduction in thickness, potentially measuring just 4.54mm when unfolded.
The company also stated that “the Ultra experience is ready to unfold,”
hinting at a potential camera upgrade, with rumors pointing towards the Galaxy Z Fold 7 borrowing its main camera from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, potentially upgrading from a 50MP to a 200MP main sensor.
While a larger battery is not expected, improved processing power and thermal management could potentially extend the phone’s screen-on time.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be revealed at Unpacked on July 9.
