Musician Grapples with Success, creative Block after Leaving New york
A celebrated musician, currently navigating life outside of New York City,is confronting a paradox of privilege: the struggle to find fulfillment despite achieving long-held ambitions. The artist, whose work is known for its “discomforting love songs” and featured on the “Where the Earth Bends” project, openly admits to battling a creative slump and a sense of purposelessness when not actively touring or recording. This internal conflict highlights a growing conversation within the creative community about the challenges of sustained success and the search for meaning beyond professional achievement.
The musician recently recounted a jarring exchange with a friend who was experiencing hardship. Offering encouragement, they stated,”Its gonna be okay. It’s not about what you have going on in your life, it’s about how you take it day by day and how you become present.” The friend’s blunt response – “Easy for you to say” – resonated deeply, forcing a painful self-assessment. “I have everything I’ve ever wanted,” the artist confessed, “How do I justify not feeling good at all?” This realization underscores the disconnect between external success and internal well-being, a sentiment increasingly common among those in the public eye.
The transition away from a New York-based life has proven unexpectedly difficult. While acknowledging the desire for downtime after periods of intense activity, the artist finds themselves adrift when not immersed in the demands of touring and recording. “You wouldn’t think that’s a problem. All you ever want when you’re busy is to not be busy. And then when you’re not busy, you’re like, ‘What the fuck do I do with myself?'”
This struggle is further complicated by a complicated relationship with touring itself. Despite loving the experience of performing live and collaborating with bandmates, the artist admits to disliking the lifestyle. “I love playing shows. I love playing with my friends. I don’t like touring,” they stated. The artist is actively attempting to reconcile this aversion with the practical reality that touring currently represents their sole means of income. ”I’m trying to learn how to like it ’cause I don’t have any other skills. I have no other way to make money.”
