Multiple Vehicle Crash on Central Highway: Driver Flees Scene in Chosica, Peru

A multi-vehicle collision involving a bus and multiple cars paralyzed a section of the Carretera Central highway in Lurigancho-Chosica, Lima, early Friday morning, leaving one person trapped and requiring rescue by firefighters. The incident, which occurred around the intersection of Lima Sur and Arequipa avenues, resulted in four injuries, none of which are considered life-threatening, according to preliminary reports.

The chain-reaction crash began when a semi-trailer truck, plate number AFE-818, reportedly traveling at excessive speed, collided with a van while traffic was stopped at a red light. The impact then triggered a series of collisions involving the interprovincial bus and two additional automobiles. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle and leaving those injured without assistance, witnesses reported.

Firefighters worked for over two hours to extricate Miguel Ángel, the driver of one of the cars, who was trapped within the wreckage. He was subsequently transported to the José Agurto Tello Hospital for medical attention. Authorities confirmed that despite the severity of the impact and the extensive damage to the vehicles, no fatalities occurred.

The accident caused a complete closure of the Carretera Central for several hours, creating significant traffic congestion. Motorists were forced to seek alternative routes to continue their journeys. Five vehicles were involved in the collision, sustaining substantial damage, as documented in images released by local media outlet ‘Liseth Informa.’

The Peruvian National Police have launched an operation to locate and apprehend the driver of the semi-trailer truck. Investigators are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Perito examinations are underway to identify the responsible party and establish the full sequence of events.
