UIU Women’s Wrestling Team Competes at Waldorf Open
FOREST CITY, Iowa – Upper Iowa University’s women’s wrestling team sent athletes to the Waldorf Open on Saturday, November 18, where Kylie Doty adn Gracee Tompkins both participated in the 160-pound frosh/soph division. While neither wrestler placed in the tournament, their participation marks continued growth for the Peacocks’ burgeoning program.
The Waldorf Open provides a valuable early-season prospect for UIU’s wrestlers to gain competitive experience against a diverse field of opponents.The event allows coaches to assess individual progress and refine strategies as the team prepares for the remainder of the season. The Peacocks are building a strong foundation in women’s wrestling, and events like this are crucial for fostering growth and identifying areas for enhancement.
Kylie Doty received a bye in the championship round one before falling by fall to Alaina Franco of Augsburg University at 1:17. Doty then received another bye in the consolation round two, but her tournament run ended with a fall to Dakota Cornell of Central College at 5:15.
Gracee Tompkins also began her competition with a bye in the championship round one, followed by a technical fall loss to Julie Maylum of Wartburg (10-0). Tompkins received a bye in consolation round two before being defeated by fall to Gracie Tolman of Minot State at 1:33.
Both Doty and Tompkins concluded the Waldorf Open without scoring any team points.The Upper Iowa women’s wrestling team will continue its season with upcoming competitions, aiming to build on the experience gained at this event.
